Pune After the study undertaken by the city traffic department, in coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation, to find solutions to curb the traffic menace, the traffic department has issued a new statement regarding the roads that will be converted into one-ways here from March 2.

The study was carried out in Swargate area like Jedhe Chowk, Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Chowk, Saras Baug and Puram Chowk to Hirebaug Chowk on Tilak road.

PI V.Palsule of the traffic department said that the road from the Sanas statue till Sant Tukdoji Chowk will be closed down for vehicles and the road from Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Chowk via Saras Baug to Sanas statue will be made a one way. This will smoothen the traffic coming from Mitra Mandal Chowk and Jedhe Chowk and going towards Puram Chowk.

This change is being made as it was observed that the flow of traffic from Mitra Mandal Chowk and Jedhe Chowk towards Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Chowk and going to Puram Chowk was high as in comparison with the traffic coming in from Hirebaug Chowk towards the Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Chowk, the press release stated.

The release also stated that the plan to make JM Road and FC Road into one-ways has already been drafted but as the PMC has not yet taken any concrete steps towards its facilitation, they will continue to follow the normal routes as earlier, the release stated.
