Pune, February 5 In an unusual development in the murder case of collegian Indrajit Verma involving former Bar Council president, advocate Lakshman Ghadge-Patil, the Pune Rural Police has named Verma’s alleged girl-friend and Ghadge-Patil’s daughter as the eighth accused in the case, who is listed as “absconding.”

The chargesheet that was filed in the court of JMFC S B Mahale by the local crime branch on Tuesday, listed the girl as an accused along with Ghadge-Patil (49), Sagar Dattu Yenpure (22), Chandrashekar alias Umesh Dnyandeo Satpute (23), Navnath alias Nava Khanaiyalal Bhoomkar (23), Sachin Kundalik Bichkar (21), Mahesh Suresh Randive (21) and Pankaj Ramesh Pawar (19). All the accused had been arrested under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 201 (tampering with evidence) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy). The case goes back to July 2, 2007 when the Paud police found Verma’s body in a ditch in Gonwadi near Mulshi dam. The police in its report alleged that Ghadge-Patil had conspired to get Verma killed due to his suspected liasion with his daughter and had directed Satpute and the others to execute the task. The daughter had also reportedly asked Yenpure to get Verma to Deccan and they had gone to Mulshi from there.

The other accused had followed them to Mulshi and had accosted Verma. While Randive hit Verma on the head with a beer bottle, Bhoomkar, Bichkar and Satpute took turns in assaulting him. After Verma bled to death, they threw his body in a ditch near the dam. The police report also mentioned that Ghadge-Patil and Yenpure are yet to undergo their narco-test.
