The eco-park, which will also serve as a picnic spot, will be an extension of the under -construction Buddha Sthal and both projects will be developed along the Sharda Canal in Alambagh.

The eco-park will come up on the land vacated following the demolition of the Central Design Directorate building and the Parikalp Nagar residential colony of the Irrigation Department.

The UP Rajkiya Niram Nigam is the working agency while the Irrigation Department is the nodal agency for the project.

“Everyone can enjoy with their families in the clean and pollution-free environment provided by the park,” said Project Manager VK Singh. “Some plantations will also be done, which would add to the beauty of the park.”

The construction has started already and according to the officials, the park will be ready by the end of January. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 50 crore.

As the park is an extension of the adjacent under-construction Buddha Sthal, the required leveling of the 30-acres of the park to bring it to the level of the Sthal has already begun as well.

“We have received directions to construct the boundary walls and level the ground. The design of the interior structures has not been provided as yet,” said an engineer at the project site.

According to the engineer, the park will be developed in two phases. While the first phase will include the construction of public utilities, seating arrangements and refreshment rooms, the second will include plantation drives of medicinal and flowering plants. There are, however, no plans to erect any statue.
