The petition, filed by Voice of India, an NGO, stated that in December 2007 the organisation had sent a representation to the Delhi government and the DMRC, seeking ‘basis’ facilities in Metro trains but got no satisfactory reply from them. Seeking for the DMRC to provide these facilities within two months, the petitioner alleged that the corporation has failed to make special sitting arrangements for senior citizens commuting by Metro every day.
The NGO has also raised questions over security at Metro stations, stating “there is an absence of baggage screening or scanning machines; the metal detecting wooden-frames through which commuters pass before reaching the platform are also defective”.
The petitioner also sought that a committee be constituted in the form of a nodal agency to look into necessary facilities to be provided to commuters.

Facilities are provided to those people who have some civic senses. Despite the good efforts of Metro to instill civic sense in Delhites, most of the people do not leave a chance to throw litter in metro stations/platforms. If nothing is available with them, atleast used bus tickets are thrown everywhere. It seems indicipline is in the blood of Indians. If we provide toilet/drinking water facilities in Metro stations, the whole station areas start stinking in no time. All these NGOs should first educate the people to be displined in their life and follow some civic sense. Then we can talk about providing civic failicies in metro stations.
