Generation Saviour Association, an NGO in Mohali, which works to create awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco visited two villages — Dyalpura and Jhungian — where the residents took an oath to make their village tobacco-free.
The youth of these two villages, after collecting tobacco from a few shops, burnt the same. Gurcharan Singh, an auto driver, who has been consuming tobacco for the last 25 years, took an oath to quit the habit.
A team from Punjabi Cultural and Welfare Society, another NGO, visited the Vishva Apahij Seva Sanstha in Padiala village and donated a washing machine. Panjabi Virsa, another NGO, meanwhile, donated food, medicines and other articles to the Cultural Society, which works for the welfare of the physically challenged, orphans and mentally challenged children. Rajinder Singh Rana, president of the Mohali Municipal Corporation, was also present on the occasion.
