Parwanoo, March 5 The National Highway number 22, connecting Shimla and Chandigarh, has suffered the neglect of authorities causing inconvenience to the general public for the past many days.

According to Narinder Kumar, a shopkeeper at Pinjore, the road is full of potholes at many places in Kalka and Pinjore, but the State National Highway and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) are not ready to take responsibility for the muchneeded repair work on the road.

As per executive engineer National Highway, Panchkula, DR Kapoor, the State National Highway had handed over the National Highway 22 to the NHAI and now it was the NHAI that has to carry out the repair work on the road. However, the NHAI officials have refuted the claim.

According to the NHAI project director, KP Sharma, the NHAI has taken charge of the road on March 1, however, it has not received the state support agreement which is to be signed between NHAI, state government and JP Group, which is the builder of the road. He said the NHAI will not spend money on the repair work till it receives the agreement.

According to Kapoor, his department had signed the support agreement on February 19 this year, with the condition to construct subways at sectors 4 and 21 in Panchkula at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

He said the NHAI has not agreed to construct the subways that have become the main points for disagreement between the two departments.

Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed both the departments to solve the matter amicably so that condition of the road could be improved.
