“The NHAI had earlier refused to carpet that part of the highway which had been retrieved by the Panchkula authorities after an anti-encroachment drive. The matter was then taken up with the higher authorities,” said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria. Once done, the road would be wider and help in free flow of traffic.
An NHAI official said the project was never on their agenda as the authority is already working on the Pinjore-Parwanoo bypass. With the Panchkula authorities taking up with the matter to the central level and later requesting it for the same, the NHAI agreed to go ahead with the project. Suman Verma, a resident of Pinjore said: “Traffic chaos was a persistent problem here. Hopefully, things will improve now.”
