Vadodara, February 29 Two Nigerian nationals have been accused of duping one Alpesh Luthar from the city of Rs 1.2 lakh through fraudulent schemes and bogus emails.

Luthar filed a complaint against Morris Desmond and Abraham Feistus with the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday.

In June last year, he had sent applications to the Mumbai and Delhi crime branches, informing them about the incident.

DCB Sub-Inspector and Investigation Officer R B Devda said that acting on the basis of the complaint, the Delhi Crime Branch managed to nab the duo and then informed the Vadodara police. The two will be brought to the city for investigations by Monday.

“The FIR was lodged after the communiqué from the Delhi Police about the duo's arrest. We also have ample evidence of their crime like telephone records and emails,” he said.

Inspector K D Pandya said, “Luthar received an email from the duo in January last year, which said he had won a lottery worth 1.7 lakh pounds Sterling. However, it came with a rider that he had to pay them some money to facilitate the transfer of the prize money to his account.”

He said Luthar paid them two instalments, of Rs 28,700 and Rs 61,000 into their account in the name Indiana Medical General Store.

“Luthar became suspicious when they asked him to pay for his own airfare to Nigeria to collect the prize . It was then that he approached the Delhi and Mumbai Police,” Pandya added.

According to the DCB, the victim even tried to scare them by threatening to file a complaint, but the duo reportedly told him that they would file a complaint against him as they had some incriminating papers.

Sources in the police said Luthar did not want to file a complaint with the Vadodara police as he had borrowed money from his friends and neighbours.
