The animal was spotted by some passers-by, who found it straddled in a small park near the Natubhai centre close to some buildings. They immediately informed forest officials and animal rights activists, who had a vexing time trying to capture the animal, as it had injured itself while trying to jump barbwires in the park.
According to Forest Conservator M R Gadhvi, they received information about the animal around 6.30 in the evening and immediately rushed to the spot.
“The animal activists and the bystanders present in the area directed us towards Pashabhai Park, where we found the animal badly injured,” he said.
The young nilgai is believed to have strayed into the area from Sindhrot, the Mahi river ravine area, where it has a larghe population. About a year ago, a leopard cub had also strayed into the residential area and had taken refuge in a bathroom in Karelibaug. Forest officials had later rescued it.
