The CPM has called a 12-hour bandh in South 24-Parganas on Wednesday in protest against the killings. The CPM supporters had been murdered yesterday by a gang allegedly backed by the Trinamool in Canning. However, the Kakdwip sub-division and Diamond Harbour Road on NH-117 will be kept out of the purview of the bandh, so that pilgrims on way to Ganga Sagar are not inconvenienced. Metro services and special trains to Namkhana will also be spared.
Sunderban Affairs Minister Kanti Ganguly, Land and Land Reforms Minister Abdur Rezzaq Mollah, senior CPM leaders Md Selim and Sujan Chakraborty visited the violence-hit villages and met family members of the deceased, and gave them Rs 10,000 per family.
