Nine, including seven women, die in Daund jeep-truck collision

Pune, February 16 As many as nine persons, including seven women, died in a head on collision between a jeep and truck near Khadki on Pune-Solapur Road around 10.30 pm on Friday.

Four others injured in the incident were admitted to a hospital for treatment. The deceased were identified as Sunanda Yeshwant Kohkare (47), Rukmini Langar (35), Ambadas Talla (40), Bageshri Talla (36), Ratan Bhosael (60), Vandana Mahamuni (40), Sunand Adagale (40), Laxmi Hari Pawar (45) and Parubai Kamble (40), all residents of Suksagarnagar in Bibwewadi and Kondhwa region.

According to the police, the deceased had gone to the temple town of Tuljapur in a private jeep. While coming back, the jeep met with a head-on collision with a truck going towards Solapur. The Baramati and Bhigwan police rushed to the spot and admitted the victims to the hospital with the help of local residents. But the impact of the mishap was so severe that six persons including the jeep driver had died on the spot, while others were declared dead on arrival to the hospital. The bodies were handed over to their family. The funeral was held on Saturday. Police said that deceased hailed from lower middle class families.
