Ahmedabad, March 3 City-Based National Multi-Commodity Exchange (NMCE) has extended the trading session by 45 minutes from Tuesday till March 20 in the wake of a "sun outage", as some trading and clearing members using VSAT connectivity may face network related problems or loss of connectivity with the exchange, a release said.

The trading session has been extended up to 5.45 pm, Mondays to Fridays, and up to 2.45 pm on Saturdays. The step has been taken in view of likely temporary loss of connectivity at different locations at different times, depending upon the service provider.

The sun outage timing for HCL Comnet providing through INSAT-3A KU-Band is 11.04 to 11.31 am; for HCL Comnet providing INSAT-3B Ext-C Band is 11.52 am to 12.20 pm; and for Bharti Airtel providing through INSAT-3E Ext-C Band is 2.01 to 2.25 pm.

In case of disconnection, the exchange advises members to login again after an interval of 5-10 minutes.

However, members using other modes of connectivity, like the Internet, leased lines and MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching), may not be affected by the sun outage.

A sun outage is a distortion of geo-stationary satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation. Generally, sun outages occur during February, March, September and October.

The effects of a sun outage can include partial degradation, an increase in the error rate, or total destruction of the signal.
