Patran/Samana Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today set to rest all speculations of a possible Cabinet reshuffle in the wake of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s elevation as Deputy Chief Minister tomorrow.

“There will be no reshuffle and Sukhbir will get some portfolios while holding the post of the Deputy Chief Minister,” said Badal.

When asked about any other changes in the Punjab government, the senior Badal said, “Wait and watch, the changes will come before you.” He hoped that Punjab would progress at a fast pace after the infusion of young blood in the decision-making process. Talking about the relations with its ally partner, the BJP, Badal said, “We share very cordial relations, which will continue.”

The CM said there would be no changes in the seat-sharing with the BJP in the forthcoming parliamentary polls. He added that the alliance would contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls on the plank of development and performance. As regards the appointment of the Punjab State Electricity Board chairman, Badal said the Centre neither had anything to do with it nor had any jurisdiction over the Board.

Badal said the state government would initiate steps to regularise some illegal colonies in the state, as demolition was an "anti-people" step. “We have inherited illegal colonies from the previous Congress government and will try to regularise them, but after payment of penalty.” Badal also defended the decision to make a law against children who abandon their old parents.

Earlier, Badal visited Patran, Samana and Ghanaur and distributed grants for development. He also assured a degree college and a bus stand for Ghanaur. Cooperation Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh also spoke on the occasion. Nominee of the SAD-BJP from Patiala Parliamentary constituency Prem Singh Chandumajra alleged that Congress MP Preneet Kaur “had not even spoken 10 words during her 10-year tenure in Parliament” on issues concerning her constituency. He raised the issue of canalisation of Ghaggar River to save the people from flood fury.

Prominent among others who spoke included former minister Hamir Singh Ghagga, Chairman District Planning Committee Surjit Singh Rakhra, former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar, chairman of Patiala Zila Parishad Mohinder Singh Lalwa and SAD district president Ajaib Singh Mukhmailpur.
