Mumbai The civic body is gearing up to ban bursting crackers and using loud speakers on Azad Maidan and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) premises. The civic administration has declared the area as silence zone owing to the presence of Cama Hospital and court. Additional municipal commissioner R A Rajeev said that at the silence zone, honking, use of loud speakers, bursting crackers and marriage processions will be allowed. Local police and the traffic department will be the law enforcers. The BMC has already displayed over 800 signages of silence zones—100 metres from the area of schools, hospitals, courts and religious places— in the city. As many as 1200 such signages will be displayed in 24 wards.
