Pune, February 25 The team that had gone to get ISI agent Saeed Desai’s custody from the Kolkata Police returned empty-handed, thanks to an order passed by the Alipur Court’s Chief Judicial Magistrate saying that the Kolkata police would be escorting Desai to Pune after his period of remand ends.

According to Anti-Extortion Cell chief inspector Bhanupratap Barge, Desai has been remanded to Kolkata police’s custody till February 29, after which he has to be handed over to Pune crime branch.

Meanwhile, ISI agent Shailesh Jadhav was produced in the Anti-Corruption Court in Shivajinagar amidst tight security on Monday.

According to police sources, the police officials suspected that Jadhav was in the danger of being attacked in court, and hence to be on the safer side, more personnel were deputed.

The purpose behind the court visit was to surrender Jadhav’s custody, as the police wanted to avail an extension after Desai is brought back to Pune from Kolkata. “We were under the impression that once Jadhav’s remand ends on the February 27, it would be difficult for us to secure it back at a time when his presence is essential i.e when we have Desai in our custody. However, as the case is a sensitive one, we were assured that we will be granted his custody. The investigation will benefit if we have both Desai and Jadhav in our custody, as both their versions can be heard and compared,” said Barge.
