Solan Hundreds of villagers, including elected representatives of the Barrian gram panchayat, blocked traffic on the Subathu-Barotiwala Road on Tuesday to protest against the non-availability of doctors.

The protesting villagers demanded immediate action against the doctors posted at the Primary Health Centre Patta (Mehlog).

The villagers assembled outside the hospital after one Dev Kumar (30), a resident of Ghayan village, died while his wife and son were injured seriously when their car rolled down a gorge, 50 metres from the hospital.

The injured were rushed to the hospital, where only a pharmacist was on duty. Angry villagers marched towards Uparla Patta and blocked the road with huge boulders. Meanwhile, the injured woman and her son were referred to PGI, Chandigarh.

The villagers alleged despite repeated requests, the authorities of the Health department had failed to ensure the availability of doctors at the hospital.
