Pune Even as the city recorded 6 mm rainfall on Friday, State Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Ajit Pawar instructed officials to keep the water cut for the city at 40 per cent which will see smooth operations for 25 days and said that there would be no further water cuts. He said the next water assessment would be done at the end of the month.

At a special meeting, conducted by Pawar at the Council hall attended by elected representatives he said that the corporation should immediately approve the tender for Bhama Asked project. The civic body had readied a Rs 260 crore plan and had sought financial help from state and central governments.

Pawar candidly stated that the government was willing to help the civic body provided if it adhered to the rules with the civic body drawing out 16 TMC as against 11.5 TMC. Farmers from Haveli, Indapur, Baramati and Daund are not happy with the situation, he stated.

MLAs including Girish Bapat, Chandrakant Chajjed, Kamal Dhole Patil, Chandrakant Shivarkar and MLC Mohan Joshi said that they were ready to provide their funds for digging borewells.

After the 40 per cent water cut, the city would receive only 560 MLD water supply, said PMC Commissioner Mahesh Zagade. “He said a special plan for equitable distribution of water has been worked out where a survey of borewells and dugwells will be conducted by zonal officers. “Valve operations for equitable distribution in the area will be controlled by the zonal officers,’’ he said.

On Thursday, Pawar had announced that canal water supply should be stopped and the corporation should make arrangements.
