Kolkata In continuing political violence in the state, a CPM supporter was killed today allegedly by Trinamool supporters in his house at Bhangor in South 24-Parganas even as clashes broke out during the 12-hour bandh called by the CPM in the district.

“We have sent the body for post mortem. The victim was sleeping in his house when he was shot from outside the window,” said South 24-Parganas SP L N Meena.

The victim, 30-year-old Jahirul Haq Mollah (30), was a resident of Bangoda village in Bhangor, the police said.

“After dinner last night, we all went to sleep. He was sleeping near the window while I was at the other end with our two-year-old son Nazim in between us. Late at night, I heard a loud shot and woke up. The next moment, I saw my husband’s blanket wet with blood,” said Naseema, the victim’s wife.

The victim’s father, Asimuddin, is a CPM member. “Of late, the family was being threatened by Trinamool supporters in the area to quit the party. Asimuddin himself was threatened with dire consequences. We know it is the handiwork of miscreants backed by the Trinamool,” said Sattar Mollah, CPM zonal committee secretary of Bhangor.

Meanwhile, during the 12-hour bandh called by the CPM in protest against the murder of their party leader Musharaff Kha in Canning, shops were forcibly shut down and Trinamool workers were beaten up. CPM supporters also blocked railway tracks in Canning and other stations for more than an hour.

At Habra in North 24-Parganas, clashes between the Trinamool and Congress workers broke out for a second day today but no one was injured. While the Trinamool accused the CPM of trying to drive a wedge between the allies, a senior Congress leader said the Trinamool was pushing to make a dent in the area which is his party’s bastion.
