Guha, a consultant for the Federation of Dyeing Factories Association, visited 12 factories on Saturday to check shortcomings in their effluent treatment plants.

“Out of the dozen industrial units, only four need total modification of their treatment plants. Effluent treatment plants in four factories were running in perfect order while four others needed a slight modification,” he said.

“The PPCB complains that the dyeing units don’t run their treatment plants continuously. This lapse leads to the spread of pollutants in groundwater and the MC sewer, which ultimately joins the Sutlej river. So I laid stress on the importance of running the treatment plants on a continuous basis,” said Guha.
