BEST had called for bids to lease out the 1300 sq mt plot at its Ambika Mill bus station in Lower Parel for commercial use. According to Pravin Chheda, Chairman of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport committee, the undertaking failed to attract developers in its first tender call. “Later, the interested party quoted far less than its last year’s bid due to the economic slump and its impact on realty sector,” Chheda said. He added that the company quoted Rs 26 crore, which is Rs 10 crore less than the earlier bid, .
The BEST committee rejected the proposal on Saturday. “The committee has rejected the proposal and we’ll call for tenders again. We are exploring the legalities of clubbing an adjoining plot of the BMC to gain more in the bid,” Chheda said. Meanwhile, the undertaking is treading cautiously on exploiting its land resources. “At present, we will not be calling in tenders for commercial exploitation of the surplus land as the realty scene is bad. Its better to wait now,” Chheda added.
