The school bus fell into a ditch after the collision. The police said five students sustained serious injuries and have been admitted in a local nursing home.
S P (Rural) Surendra Verma said the incident occurred around 9 am, when the schoolchildren were coming from Jhajhar to N S Public School in Jahangirpur. The bus collided with the tractor near Kasba Jahangirpur. A cultivator was attached to the tractor, as the driver was going to reap his fields. “The bus driver lost control after the collision as he was speeding,” Verma said.
The 40 students on board the bus were grievously hurt. The condition of five of them, however, is still not under control. “Rishbh (10), Bhavana (8), Shahid (12), Gautam (15) and Vishabh (13) are still not out of danger. They have received serious injuries,” the SP said. Students who received minor injuries were discharged from hospital after first aid.
Rajan, the bus driver, has been taken into custody. Verma said the police are investigating the matter and those found guilty will be duly punished. The parents are blaming the school authorities. “Taking students from home and dropping them back safely is the school’s responsibility. The driver should have been carefully selected, as the lives of our children are put in his hands when they board the school bus,” a parent said.
