Noor shines in final

Lucknow Impressive performance by Noor (89 runs; 2 for 33) went a long way as VLCC Club defeated Minimount Club by 4 wickets in the final of the 1st Minimount Corporate Cup 2008-09 at Northern Railway Stadium here on Sunday. Noor was declared man-of-the-match for his efforts.

VLCC team won the toss elected to field. Mini Mount scored 166 runs losing seven wickets in 25 overs. In reply, VLCC Club was able to attain the set target in 21.4 overs with four wickets to spare.

Minimount Club: 166 for 7 in 25.0 overs (Sanjay Singh 54, Liyaqat Hasan 18, Anoop Bajpai 27, Adil Khan 17; Noor 2 for 33);

VLCC Club: 169 for 6 in 21.4 overs (Noor 89, M Waris 28, Rajesh 28, Sanjay Singh 2 for 45; Abhay Singh 2 for 25);

Man-of-the-match: Noor.

Anurag excels
ALL-ROUND efforts by Anurag Singh (73 not out; 2 for 20) was the highlight of the match as his team— Lucknow Stars defeated Faizabad Lions by 70 runs in their prequarter-final match of the Pradeep Memorial Cricket Tournament on Sunday. The tournament has been organised by Devnarayan Inter College, Jalaalpur, Ambedkar Nagar.
Batting first, Lucknow Stars scored 153 runs losing five wickets in the given 20 overs, thanks to responsible batting performances by Anurag Singh (73 not out) and Atul Yadav (53). While Anurag’s unbeaten 73 came off 40 balls, Atul’s 53 resulted off 50 balls
In reply, the team of Faizabad Lions was bowled out at a total of 83 runs in a matter of 15 overs. Tej Kumar Shukla with 20 was the main run-getter. Zeeshan Khan claimed four crucial wickets conceding 14 runs while Anurag Singh took two wickets.

Lucknow Stars: 153 for five in 20 overs ( Anurag Singh 73 not out, Atul Yadav 53; Nitin Kumar 1 for 25, Satyarth Puri 2 for 45);

Faizabad Lions: 83 all out in 15 overs ( Tej Kumar Shukla 20, Mridul Prakash 15; Zeeshan Khan 4 for 14, Anurag Singh 2 for 20).

Police athletics

HOSTS Uttar Pradesh Police bagged the men’s section winner’s trophy in the 57th All India Police Athletics Championship organised at 35th Bn PAC, Lucknow which came to a close on Saturday evening. BSF claimed the runners-up trophy.

In the women’s section, CRPF emerged champion while Punjab Police clinched the runners-up shield.

Governor (UP) TV Rajeswar was the chief guest at the closing ceremony organised in the evening.
