Kolkata A dyslexic student, who was not allowed to appear for Class XII examinations due to low attendance, has moved the Calcutta High Court.

The court has now sought an explanation from the school authorities on the issue.

Payal Sarkar of Central School in Fort William has difficulty in recognising alphabets and characters and has to undergo long period of treatment that resulted in her low, her counsel Subrata told Justice B Somadder of the Calcutta High Court.

The court directed the principal of the school to appear in person on Wednesday to explain why Payal was not being permitted to appear for the finals.

According to the school authorities, Payal has an attendance of 59 per cent, one per cent short of the board stipulated 60 per cent for students with special condition.

Her pleas and applications for being allowed to sit for the examination beginning on March 10 was not entertained or forwarded to the CBSE authorities, prompting her to file the petition before the High Court, said Mukhopadhyay.
