“It will create an opportunity for men and women to listen and understand each other, to understand legal remedies and the time that they will have to spend in the court. Our aim is to remove misconceptions about ‘success in the courts’ and also tell them that the recourse to law should be the last medium,” said Asim Sarode.
The members of the centre include Asim Sarode, Dr Mangal Dukle, Rama Sarode, Monika Thanekar, Savita Deshmukh, P R Bihade, Geetanjali Pawar and social worker Mahadev Upade.
The Sahyog Trust’s team will help couples embroiled in disputes to understand the procedures, positive approach of law and rights-based interpretations of legal provisions. This ‘pre-litigation’ work will help everyone to decide whether to fight or resolve amicably. Without making generalised presumptions, the team will describe the alternatives to a court case and lead people towards self-directed negotiations. If nothing seems to be possible, then they may take decision of collaborative divorce.
