Mumbai After a series of terror response drills, the city will now see a drill to check preparedness for an urban flood. The National Disaster Management Authority will carry out the drill, albeit without water, on February 17 and 18 in Mumbai to asses if the city is ready to face another deluge as in 2005, and how well various agencies are coordinated.

It will be carried out in Andheri East where a flood-like situation will be simulated but without water. “The various requirements from government sectors during heavy rains or floods and the synchronised working between these agencies will be monitored by experts from the NDMA,” said deputy municipal commissioner (disaster management) of the BMC, S.S Shinde.

The drill will involve five agencies of the state and over 20 of the BMC. These include the police, state and municipal health services, state and municipal fire and emergency services, controller of civil defence, home-guards, transport officials, railway officials, local NGOs, Port Trust representative, representatives from the Navy, Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force. Their ratings will be compiled into a report to be presented to respective agencies to help them overcome their lapses.

Drizzle in Mumbai
The disturbances that have caused snowfall in the North brought a light morning drizzle to Mumbai. IMD officials said the western disturbances at higher atmospheres have extended up to Mumbai’s latitudes. The temperature dropped a degree.
