Having restricted its probe till date to allotments made to applicants under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories, the investigators would now look into any possible irregularity in the allotment in general category as well.

The probe is also looking beyond the possibility of irregularities emerging from Rajasthan: sources said 1,000 forms filled by applicants from Manipur would also be checked.

Meanwhile, the police learnt during investigations in Jhunjhunu that a few successful allottees from the Meena community have already transferred power of attorney of flats to some property dealers. The investigators are looking for these property dealers there.

A Delhi Police team today raided a few places there, including a hotel where agents who went from the Capital to collect documents from the locals stayed. The investigators also verified the process of forging PAN cards from a local Chartered Accountant. Sources said two courier service agencies, from where applications were sent to the DDA, were also raided.

Laxmi Narayan Meena, the first accused arrested in the case, was taken to several places in Jhunjhunu today and some allottees identified him as having given them money to file the applications, a source said.

In the capital, EOW officials said after self-claimed whistleblower Deepak Kumar’s disclosure that he alone had filled 366 forms, it is imperative to check all applications made under the scheme. Clarifying that the investigators would now check all general-category applications, Additional Commissioner of Police (EOW) S B K Singh said, “We are investigating every possible aspect.”

Meanwhile, the police interrogated and recovered more documents from Deepak Kumar today. “He was taken to Jaina Tower II office (in Janakpuri) and a few other places,” an EOW source said. “We have also taken his call details to know who all he was in touch with; and whether these included DDA officials.”

Kumar would be taken to Jhunjhunu on Wednesday morning.

A senior officer said the role of two senior DDA officials is being probed but details could not be divulged at the moment.

HC seeks status report from DDA
A day after refusing to stay the allocation of flats to successful allottes, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked DDA to submit status report on a petition seeking inquiry by a retired judge into the alleged irregularities.

Amid a deluge of unsuccessful DDA flat applicants rushing to the court, Justice Hima Kohli heard a petition by S C Jain, who alleged gross malpractices into the draw of lots and sought a probe by a retired High Court judge. In a similar matter claiming illegality in allowing applicants from the Scheduled Tribes category from other states to participate in the draw, the court had on Monday turned down the plea to stay the allotment process. The court had issued a notice to DDA seeking its response by March 16.

On Wednesday, the High Court would take up a similar plea in which Rajesh Kumar, an Indian Air Force employee, has sought cancellation of the draw.
