The West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education has decided get rid of the drab and dull looks of the books that have been in circulation for decades.
“When a student first gets a book in his hand, he glances over the pages and looks at the picture. So, this is an attempt to make the books more attractive to students,” said Sohrab Hussain, president of the Board.
The Board has also instructed publishers to use good quality papers for publishing the books. Altogether 39 books for Classes VI to X will get a new look, said Board officials.
On the quality front, the new books will not be inferior to CBSE and ICSE textbooks, said Hussain.
The Board has decided that the new books, which will be made available to all the 576 madrasahs in the state, will be priced nearly the same as the old ones.
Along with this, the Board will have separate books for Classes IX and X, just like the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, which has decided to split the syllabus Madhyamik syllabus into two parts — Class IX and Class X.
