The Indian Railway Catering and Tourist Corporation (IRCTC) added another feather to its cap with the launch of ‘Re-Fresh’, its first food outlet on the Central railway (CR) line. A leading restaurateur has been given the licence to operate the outlet.
The outlet will function like a restaurant and will offer various types of cuisines, including Jain food items. It would render services round the clock. The services will include ‘take-away’ facility. One of these food outlets would be opened at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station.
The move is expected to go down well with the travellers, especially those who often need to catch trains at odd hours.
Sowmya Raghavan, General Manager of the CR who inaugurated the food outlet said, “This was eagerly awaited as 3 lakh passengers use the CST station everyday. The hygiene would be monitored by the railway.” This is the third outlet by the IRCTC on suburban rail platforms, the other two being at the Mumbai Central and Churchgate station. Rajeev Sharma, Group General Manager, IRCTC said, “The fourth is in pipeline and is to come up at the CST station but it would cater to the suburban railway commuters.” He added, “We have requested for space to CR and Western Railway (WR) at the suburban stations on both these lines.”
JN Lal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the CR said, “There would be more such outlets on the suburban railway.”
The IRCTC wants space at the Bandra, Andheri and Borivali railway stations on the WR and at Thane and Kalyan railway stations on the CR line to start similar food outlets.
