Harrison was delivering the keynote address at a function at Le Meridien Hotel on the occasion of Pune Comfex 2009, an engineering expo organised by the Western India Division of the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) at the city's AISSMSS grounds. He later inaugurated the expo and also released "Ventilation Handbook" published by ISHRAE.

Harrison said waste of energy is currently the important subject requiring the world's attention. "Although six out of the ten most important solutions are proposed by the architect while developing the design of a building, it is the responsibility of all concerned to ensure that every structure is a zero energy wastage one," Harrioson said. He commended the efforts undertaken by Indian businesses in the area of eco-safe (green) construction, adding that ASHRAE is conducting a number of education and training programmes to create awareness about this need.

ISRAE president and chief executive officer of Spectral Consultants Ashish Rakhija, Daikin India's managing director T Hayash, ISHRAE Pune branch head Anand Joshi, and ISHRAE's founding president P C Jain were present on the occasion. A special technical session 'ACR Trendz' was also held on the temperature control technology where experts explained their views on the latest developments in this field.

Harrison said if the developers of properties build in the energy savings methodologies in the design and plan of structures, the cost may go up marginally but the long term benefits of this will be enjoyed in terms of major reduction in the cost of maintenance and repairs. Every home owner must also contribute hos bit to the effort of energy saving by installing efficient power ssupply systems, using good quality equioment and gadgets and keep them well-maintained, Harrison advised He also said it is essential to study every building from the viewpoint of energy reuse.

Daikin India managing director T Hayashi stressed the need to consider environment protection as a matter of top and urgent priority. He pointed out to the risk of natural calamities due to global warming and said the researchers have noticed the symptoms of global warming in India as well. He welcomed the efforts undertaken by ISHRAE and ASHRAE.

ACR Trendz is held every year in Pune. The conference is being held to coincide with the Comfex 2009. The conference is focused on eco-safe construction. An international conference on this subject is also planned in New Delhi later this year. Ashish Rakheja said the proposed agreement between ASHRAE and ISHRAE will make it possible for Indian engineers to interact with global expert on the same platform.
