Kolkata In a big leap forward, the Ramakrishna Mission Residential Degree College at Narendrapur in South 24-Parganas will introduce for the first time the much sought after MA in English course from 2010.

Earlier, the college had introduced post-graduation degree in chemistry and physics, said Suparnananda Maharaj, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission.

Started in July 1960, the college, affiliated to the

Calcutta University, is an important and integral

part of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narendrapur. The entirely residential college follows the basic principles and patterns which all other educational institutions of the Ramakrishna Mission follow. The residential college recently became autonomous.

The Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad at Narendrapur plans to usher in the New Year with night high school for the benefit of adult students. People in distress and hapless condition will be immensely benefited by this. Besides it also plans to introduce computer training for its students. This apart, it will also offer vocational training in 24 courses, including food processing, tailoring, garment making, fabric and batik printing.

The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, with its headquarters at Belur, has opened its faculty centre at Narendrapur campus where integrated rural development and management courses are being offered.

The vocational training will cater to the needs of both rural and urban youths. The Parishad organises multi-faceted training to impart technical skills to make the poor students economically productive and socially progressive individuals, the secretary added.
