“All formalities for the launch of the new service are almost complete. We are waiting for the ‘code clearance’ by the bank, necessary for the online facility,’’ said Kulwant Singh Kalson, Additional Transport Commissioner, Haryana.
The Volvo bus service operates on the Chandigarh-Delhi and Chandigarh-Gurgaon-Delhi route. The Roadways had planned to start online reservations about one-and-a -half-year ago, but the problem of “compatibility with computers” faced by the NIC delayed the project. Things have fallen in place with the introduction of a web portal, Association of State Road Transport Union (ASTRU), said Anand Mohan Sharan, Haryana Transport Commissioner. “Online reservation has been quite a success in the Indian Railways, it will make ticket bookings much easier,’’ said Sharan.
Instead of hiring, the Haryana Roadways has been running its own buses, since its disassociation with Libra Bus services in February last year. It has bought six of its own Volvo buses, costing Rs 69 lakh each. It plans to run eight such buses on the same route. One bus service would be started on the Delhi-Manali and Delhi-Katra (Jammu) route, said sources in the transport department.
According to Sharan, the Roadways plans to buy 700 new ordinary buses before the end of the current financial year. “We have got the approval from the state government to purchase 386 buses, and are waiting for the approval for the rest,’’ he said. The Haryana Roadways has a fleet of around 3,300 buses, but many of them have been sent for repair. A number of villages are reported to have poor bus facility, but according to Sharan efforts are being made to improve the bus frequency in the state. The state is also in the process of buying 50 AC buses, at a cost of Rs 33 lakh each, from Ashok Leyland. The Transport Commissioner said the CNG buses have been restricted to the National Capital Region (NCR) because of lack of CNG filling stations in Haryana.

all we are hearing and reading is news that online booking is getting started but so far no implementation....Its shear wastage of time, money nd fuel.It becomes a big pain to book the ticket..It only reflects that how slow our system is.I just hope this becomes up n running asap and helps saving a lot f time...Sugandha
Its been 9 months yet there is no news about the online booking of the Volvo Buses. It is a pain for a person who has to travel every weekend and stupidity to go to the bus stand and book a ticket everytime. I hope something can be done to this tedious and slow moving system which kills so many peoples time... Bhavna
