New Delhi For the first time, the traffic police has arranged for a park-and-ride facility during the Republic Day function. Two parking lots have been selected for this facility from where low-floor DTC buses would take spectators to their respective seating enclosures.

According to the plan, government officials below the rank of Deputy Secretary and those with tickets to enclosure number 5, 8, 15, 29 and 31 will alight at either of the two parking lots at the football ground of the Central Civil Services Cultural and Sport Board in Vinay Marg and the Palika Bazar parking in Connaught Place. Earlier, spectators with passes for these enclosures were issued parking labels; now they will be given park-and-ride labels. “Parking space has been reduced due to the ongoing construction work of the Delhi Metro. To improve the traffic circulation plan to parking lots number 4, 5 and 9, we have introduced this scheme,” said Joint Commissioner (Traffic) S N Shrivastava.

The traffic police have also issued directives that all spectators should reach the destination between 7.30 am and 9 am. For South of Rajpath, the buses will deliver the invitees at Akbar Road, near the Man Singh Road roundabout and the Moti Lal Nehru Road near the Sunehri Masjid roundabout, whichever is closer to their seating enclosures. For North of Rajpath, the buses would deliver invitees to Ashoka Road near Jaswant Singh Road roundabout and Rafi Marg near Krishi Bhawan roundabout.

After the conclusion of the ceremony, buses will be available from the same spot. The Capital’s borders will be sealed from 11 pm on January 25 till 1.30 pm on Republic day. The traffic helpline 23010101 will be available round the clock to help out commuters with information.
