Jay Narayan Vyas, the Minister for Tourism and non-resident Gujaratis, said that individuals as well as office bearers of the non-resident Gujarati associations in different countries will be appointed as the “distinguished representatives.”
The minister, however, did not specify what privileges the non-resident Gujaratis will enjoy under their status as “state guests” during their visit here.
Vyas only said: “None of them will be entitled to get any kind of allowances or concessions; nor will they be permitted to enter into any agreement or get involved in a financial transaction on behalf of the state government.”
He said the idea behind the decision was to establish a direct link between the government and the non-residents,
besides also involving them in the process of the state's development.
The government will help them solve their socio-economic problems as well, he added.
Vyas, however, evaded a direct reply to a query on why the current dispensation has decided to close down the non-resident Gujarati Bhavan set up in the Circuit House
Annexe in Ahmedabad during the erstwhile Keshubhai Patel regime.

Tourism Minister Narayan needs to clarify who is an NRI/G. Is every Gujarati living abroad and a citizen of the foreign country is an NRG, or only a Gujarati living abroad but Indian National is considered as an NRG? Narayan has not even specified what privileges would be enjoyed by NRGs. This seems to be very unclear and half-hearted work. Probably, he himself is confused and made the announcement haphazardly which lacks any planning and direction.
