Panchkula, February 27 While the latest excise policy of Haryana allows free flow of liquor 24x7 in the bars, the number of liquor vends in the district are decreasing with every passing year. Putting a check on the vends, the District Excise department has come out with a new list that reveals which ones would be allowed to continue and which ones shut down. The number of vends for the coming year has been cut down to 113, from the exisitng 134 vends.

“Following the latest excise policy, at least 21 liquor vends are being closed down in the current year. While some are being shut down on the basis of the resolutions passed by various panchayats, others have been closed due to the mandatory provision of a distance of at least 2.5 kms between the urban and rural vends. In some cases, the locals didn’t want a vend in their vicinity,” said an official of the excise department on conditions of anonymity.
