According to Assistant Police Inspector D S Ram Shetty with the Vasai Rural police station, Chanda Jadhav (22), a resident of Wagholipata in Vasai, was close to victim Rupesh Nandvel’s wife Jyotsana (25) for the past five years. Both the women worked as nurses in a hospital.
On February 3, Jyotsana’s weekly off, Chanda asked her to accompany her on an outing, the police said. But Rupesh, who was aware of the relationship between Jyotsana and Chanda, didn't allow his wife to accompany Chanda. Rupesh also warned Jyotsana against socialising with Chanda, the police said.
“This enraged Chanda,” Shetty said. On the night of February 4, when Jyotsana was on the night shift, Chanda called up Rupesh at his residence and told him that his wife was “possessed by a ghost and was behaving in a weird manner”.
Chanda offered to come to his residence and take him to Jyotsana, Shetty said. Chanda, the police said, went to Rupesh's Katkari Pada home on her two-wheeler and asked him to walk with her to the hospital.
“On the way to the hospital, Chanda took out a knife and stabbed Rupesh in the abdomen and on the forehead. An injured Rupesh managed to stagger to the hospital and seek medical attention. He was later admitted to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali, where he succumbed to his injuries on February 6.”
Shetty added: “We have arrested Chanda and have charged her with murder.”
