Nursing students pledge to serve ailing masses

Chandigarh, February 7 The lamp-lighting ceremony to mark the passing out of the seventh batch of General Nursing and Midwifery students at the Fortis School of Nursing was held today in the auditorium. Students took an oath to serve the ailing humanity with utmost sincerity and resolve.

The ceremony started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Chief Guest Tikshan Sud, Minister for Medical Research and Education, Parliamentary Affairs, Forest and Wild Life Preservation and Labour, Punjab.

Other dignitaries who participated in the ceremony included Khushwant Rai, Dr N M Gupta, Director Surgeon, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, and teachers and principal of Fortis School of Nursing.

As two faculty members of the school held candles in front of the portrait of Florence Nightingale, 50 students appeared on the dais in twos and lit their candles, taking an oath to serve humanity with compassion and empathy.

Tikshan Sud congratulated Fortis School of Nursing for nurturing such talents, providing them with high-quality training and also developing their personality. He went on to say that Fortis is going higher up in the ladder of medical healthcare day by day, which is worthy of appreciation. He also thanked Fortis by saying medical institutions like these hold a significant place in our society. Dr Ashok V Chordiya, Medical Director, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, talked about the quality of education that was being imparted to the nursing students at Fortis and spoke about the popularity of the profession in the recent years, in India as well as abroad.

Munir Gujral, principal, Fortis School of Nursing, presented the school report.
