Of 2.46 lakh CAT applications, 2.38 lakh applied for IIM-Ahmedabad

True to its reputation, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has received applications from 2,38,665 candidates out of a total 2,46,546, who appeared in the Common Admission Test (CAT) on November 16, 2008.

IIM-A shared these details on Friday while releasing the list of 817 candidates short-listed for personal interview for a two-year postgraduate programme in management.

Of the total applicants, 38,417 candidates have applied under various reserved categories that include non-creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC) 21,979; Scheduled Tribes (STs) 3,050; Scheduled Castes (SCs) 12,546 and Differently-abled (DA, also referred to as persons with disability, PWD) 842.

Of the 817 candidates short-listed, 609 belong to the general category, 86 each to SC and NC-OBC, 25 to ST and the remaining 11 to DA. Out of these, only 315 candidates will finally make it to IIM-A.

The proposed number of students for the academic year 2009-10 for various categories is: General– 194, SC- 47, NC-OBC – 41, ST- 24 and DA– 9.

The institute authorities said the CAT scorecard will be mailed to the candidates after January 14 and the score will remain valid for admission only for the year 2009-10, unless specified otherwise.

After the personal interviews, scheduled during the months of February and March, admission offer will be made by the respective IIMs on April 10.

This will be based on a diverse set of attributes like CAT score, interview performance, academic and extra-curricular achievements, and work experience, the authorities added.
