The jinx was finally broken and all’s well at last. Jodhaa Akbar, the most expensive film made in recent times, premiered in Mumbai on Thursday. Director Ashutosh Gowariker, very evidently cagey and tense, was the earliest to arrive and ushered in guests like a good host. The Who’s Who of the film industry showed up, like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha and the film’s lyricist Javed Akhtar with wife Shabana Azmi. Producer Ronnie Screwvala, dressed in a traditional sherwani, was seen in a jovial and light-hearted mood as he chatted with Chopra.

There was a commotion of sort when the film’s heroine Aishwarya Rai walked in with in-laws Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan and family friend Amar Singh. Abhishek basked in his wife’s glory and happily gave news bytes. Hrithik Roshan, looking dapper as usual, stuck to in-laws Sanjay and Zarine Khan. The starry evening ended on a positive note, with the high profile guests leaving the theatre gushing about the film. However, the showstoppers were definitely the Bachchans, who not only praised their daughter-in-law, but also spoke highly of Hrithik’s performance.
