Chandigarh Seven office-bearers of Kalpana Chawla Memorial Educational Society at Rajpura have been booked for fraud. The role of Additional Registrar of Societies, Mohali, has also come under the scanner for allegedly conniving with the accused.

The accused were identified as Vipin Kaushal, Pawan Kaushal, Madhu Kaushal and Neelam Kaushal of Sector 15-C Chandigarh, and Pankaj Bajaj, Shridhar Bajaj and Rashmi Bajaj of New Friends Colony, New Delhi.

According to the police, the seven fraudulently prepared resignation letters of the chairman and vice-chairman of the society and dispatched it to various organisations in a bid to take control of all properties owned by the society.

Pawan Kaushal, along with the other accused, allegedly prepared forged documents of the Punjab National Bank, Sector 16 Branch, stating the bank does not hold any mortgage on the society’s land. To sell the property, Kaushal also submitted an affidavit to the Sub-Registrar of Rajpura that the land is not mortgaged. The accused also managed to obtain a Non-Incumbent Certificate from the Sub-Registrar on the forged papers.
