Chandigarh To check the preparedness and safety measures in oil depots of the city, UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas on Friday asked all oil companies having depots in Chandigarh to submit a status report within 15 days.

The Home Secretary has asked them to mention in the report the capacity of their oil depots and possible risk factors.

At the meeting today, officials deliberated on all oil depots being relocated in remote areas of Chandigarh, Haryana or Punjab as the existing depots are situated in areas with high population density.

The meeting was called following the recent tragedy at a oil depot in Jaipur .

Meanwhile, representatives from Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum apprised the officials that the depots were similar to retail outlets with underground tanks.

Representatives from Indian Oil informed that their depot has been non-operational for a year and is on the verge of being dismantled.
