Vadodara The nationwide strike called by the Oil Sector Officers’ Association (OSOA) has hit Gujarat on the first day itself.

According to officials, the ONGC terminal at Hazira, from where natural gas is supplied, has been shut down.

“The gas supply from the Hazira plant was stopped today,” said J S Mishra, secretary, Association of Scientific and Technical Officers (ASTO), ONGC.

The supply of CNG has also been disturbed, which may create problems for the Gujarat State Transport Corporation (GSTRC) — one of the largest consumers in the state.

GSRTC officials, however, said they can survive for the next seven days, and that it could be a cause of worry in the long term. “We are in constant touch with IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) officials. We are confident that we will be able to keep the buses running,” said Sanjay Amrani, general manager, GSRTC.

Mishra said the strike will continue till their demands are met. “The actions being taken against our leaders will not deter us,” he added.

OSOA is observing the strike to press for its 11 demands. One of its demands is merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with the basic pay with effect from January 1, 2005, on lines of the one approved for the Central employees in January 2006.
