After honing his skills under coach Harpreet Singh, Parminder was a regular fixture in the Punjab State Championship, where he won his first gold in 2003. But the turning point in his career came when he fetched gold in junior national championship in Jamshedpur in 2004.

"I was under a lot of pressure at that time as my family, especially my brother, wanted me to win a medal. That gold came at the right moment and it boosted my confidence to perform well further" informed the 21-year-old.

Proving his worth in the national circuit, he shot to glory when he won a bronze in Uzbekistan in the 81kg category. He followed it up with a silver and bronze in Russia in 2006. But the real test in his career was yet to come as he stepped into the senior level competition where he had to prove his billing as a prodigious talent. "I had lots of expectations riding on me. Thankfully, I won gold in senior YMC Championship in Delhi in 2007 where I was also the best boxer. But my biggest win so far has been the bronze medal in Germany in 2008 where pugilists from major boxing countries had come," said the Jassowal lad.
