The company has been awarded contracts for the construction of two modern jails by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIBD) and the Punjab Public Works Department (B&R). To be constructed over an area of 70 acres each, these will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 210 crore and are expected to be completed within 18 months.
“Omaxe plans to strengthen its presence in the country’s infrastructure sector, and had recently participated in bids and tenders on various infrastructure projects,” Rohtas Goel, CMD, Omaxe Ltd, said.
Both the jails would have a capacity to house more than 2,000 inmates and each project would have a 50-bed hospital, administrative block, training centre-cum-canteen, library block, central watch tower, dispensary, flour mill and workshops. The jail would also have educational facilities, firefighting system, solar water heater system, rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plant, dual water supply system and a large green central court with every ward.
The new jail would also have latest security arrangements like CCTV, mobile jammer, X-ray scanners, access control system, prison management system and visitor management system.
