Chandigarh Expanding the ambit of their services, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has decided to organise school trips for students of the city. After seeing the good response by students in Delhi, the corporation will now extend this concept to Chandigarh.

The corporation has already tied-up with the schools and around 40-45 students will be taken along with four teachers in the first batch to leave in April.

In an attempt to promote heritage and culture with entertainment, IRCTC had ventured into organising school trips.

In Delhi, as many 8,740 students of central schools like Kendriya Vidyalya were taken on trips which included their travel, stay, food and sight seeing. Students were taken to places in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab including Dalhousie, Shimla and Amritsar.

“The number of students that have been enrolled in just four months speaks volumes in itself. The concept was launched in October last year. Chandigarh would be the second city where this concept will be introduced. The central schools have already agreed to it and talks with other government and private schools are on. New areas would be added to the trips,” said Aneet Dulat, Regional Manager, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd.

The schools are not required to arrange for anything as the entire arrangement is done on behalf of IRCTC.

“Convenient trips at reasonable prices are the reason why such a large number of students are availing these trips. The students are picked from their houses and dropped back. Even a guide is provided to the group. Neither the students nor the schools have to organise for anything,” added Dulat.

The students are taken by train and buses where available. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd has been organising rail tours and holiday packages to various destinations throughout the country.
