Much to the disappointment of the society members, they have not yet received any reply from the Pune Municipal Corporation even after bringing the matter to the notice of civic officials including Municipal Commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi.
Society chairman Pravin Patil said, “We have conveyed to the PMC our objection against the proposed bus route as it cuts across our society land. The route from 509 chowk to Dhanori and Lohegaon passing through our society is not appropriate as there is a temple at the turning point. Then there are two 90 degree turns in the society, which might prove risky for heavy vehicles like buses.”
He said, “Actually, according to the original plan, the proposed route was to go straight from 509 chowk, which was passing through the land owned by the sitting corporator. However, the plan was later altered and the road was then proposed through a slum. But since it was affecting a number of families in the slum, it was again shifted to our society. The original road plan is in fact more convenient and without any hurdles and turns, thereby causing fewer problems for the vehicles. Moreover, the same route has been approved by the town planning department and the Air Force has given its no-objection certificate and had even shown willingness to provide funds for the same."
Vinay Deshpande, chief of the JNNURM cell of the PMC, said that the road was not proposed under JNNURM. “Though we are developing the road up to 509 chowk and then straight up to the airport, this particular proposed bus route does not fall within our purview.” Officials from civic roads department could not provide any information about the road.
