Under IRDP, the development work order worth Rs 5.99 crore of the stretch of road between Lal Bahadur Shastri statue and Alka Talkies was given to J P Enterprises on May 8, 2006.
Except for the grace period of monsoon, the deadline given for the completion of the project was 12 months. “The deadline ended on Monday and till date only 30 per cent of work, worth Rs 1.70 crore has been completed,” said activists Vivek Velankar and Sandeep Khardekar of Sajag Nagrik Manch and Creative Foundation.
The letter sent by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited to the PMC says, “Since March 2006, owing to this road development work, there have been instances of power failures as the underground electricity cables were affected.”
The letter mentions that the patch of road between Dnyanal Mangal Karyalay and Poona Hospital is now buried under the drainage lines and hence there is a likelihood that the power supply to the adjoining areas will be affected.
Sudhir Kale, vice president of Shivajinagar Congress Committee, has demanded that the contractor be put in the black list.
He has threatened to hold agitation if the roadwork is not completed by January end as it is a menace to the nearby residents.
