Telivision industry is standing up on the occasion. For International Woman’s Day, various channels—which as it is recognise the fairer sex as the major component of their viewership—have either new programmes lined up or have done something special to mark the occasion. UTVi, the business news channel will air a series of special shows focused on the gentler sex called ‘What Women Want’. The programmes are for women, by women and address issues that pertain to them, including ‘Cracking Careers’, ‘Real Estate’, ‘Life & Style’, ‘The Autocar Show’, ‘Smart Money’ and a documentary titled ‘I Will Survive’.

“When we joined hands with Ekta Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms, we were conscious of the beating the image of the Indian woman had taken because of the popular shows. So, we took it up on ourselves to repair the damage through positive characters and correct representation of the Indian woman and her predicament as we are striving to do in our serials Bandini, Dehleez and Jyoti, says Shailja Kejriwal, executive vice president (Content) NDTVimagine.

On the eve of Woman’s Day, Parul Chauhan, who plays Ragini in Sapna Babul Ka ~Bidaai, on Star Plus, says , “I belong to Lucknow and coming to Mumbai was a big leap for me. But by the grace of God, I am doing great in my profession. I know what I have done and how much hard work I have put in. A day like this reminds me of my hard work and goads me to work harder and achieve my goals. It also reminds me of the hard work put in by my mother to make me what I am today. Appreciation in form of such days is definitely a good feeling.”
