She also announced the establishment of the Women Protection and Exploitation Control Cell, for which an amount of Rs 10.87 crore has been earmarked in the budget. She was speaking at a function organised by State Commission for Women.
Lauding the work of the commission, Mayawati said that her government will consider their demand of construction of toilets in 90,000 primary and upper primary schools. She said a survey will be conducted for building women toilets in rural areas.
On the occasion, Mayawati released a souvenir Nai Chetna and inaugurated an exhibition of home products made by women of self-help groups.
She further said her government will make all efforts to set up a hostel for representatives of panchayat in Panchayat Bhawan, which is under construction in Lucknow. “This will provide a safe place to district panchayat heads, panchayat representatives and village pradhans to stay during their visit to the capital,” she said.
The chief minister said her government will also consider computerising the pension distribution system to widows, old and destitute women. She also announced launching ‘Mahila Nidhi’, an award for women voluntary organisations, girl students and entrepreneurs.
