Chandigah The police have decided to recover a pending bill of Rs 10 lakh from the Haryana Cricket Association (HCA) for providing security at a cricket match between India and Australia in Sector 16 last year. Inspector General of Police Shanti Kumar Jain said: “The audit department had raised objections over the issue of pending bills. We have asked the HCA to pay the bill and will communicate this through an official letter as well.”

Meanwhile, the police have asked for five additional companies to provide security to Indian Premier League (IPL) players in the city. Seven IPL matches have been scheduled from April 14 to May 18 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.

The IPL authorities have sought a security cover from the Chandigarh Police for the duration of the players’ stay at Hotel Taj and their movements between the hotel and stadium. “With the current threat perception, we cannot take chances. At least 500 personnel will be required round the clock to ensure safety of the players,” said Jain.

And this time the IG does not plan to take any chances with the bill too. “The bill, estimated to be around Rs 1 crore, will be presented to the IPL authorities before the matches,” he said.
