Ludhiana Unlike the stress-associated criticisms that students and parents have had for pre-board examinations, the popular opinion now is that these examinations make them "psychologically ready" for the board-battle ahead.

"There is no denying the fact that pre-board examinations are a do-or-die situation for us. But I have realised that these tests are for my own good. Schools help us know where we stand in terms of academics," says Pratham Chhabra, a student of Class X.

"Pre-boards assist us in realising our potential. When we give tests all year round, there should be no problem in appearing for prelims too. They aid in quick revision because of their capsule format," says Arnav Gogia, a Class XII student of Army Public School.

Students also feel that the anxiety pertaining to pre-boards can be avoided. "Any examination, whether boards or pre-boards, generates stress among us, much of which is self-inflicted. Students should set realistic goals to avoid any kind of disappointment. Moreover, these tests give us sufficient time to make up for the subjects we lack in," says Ruchika Singh, another Class XII student.

Kriti, a student of Class XII in a government school who recently took the pre-board examinations avers, "Taking the pre-boards has boosted my confidence as I have become sure of my preparation. The results helped me spot my weakness. Tests and examinations throughout the year take off the pressure of studying at the last moment and help in the overall preparation of the students."
